Ronnie Kasrils and Omar Barghouti to speak at
5th INTERNATIONAL ISRAELI APARTHEID WEEK
What: Israeli Apartheid Week 2009
When: March 2nd – March 8th 2009
Where: Toronto – University of Toronto, Ryerson University, York University
Ronnie Kasrils, former member of the South African 'African National Congress' (ANC) and government minister in several post-apartheid South African governments, as well as Omar Barghouti, founder of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), will be touring Canadian cities for the 5th annual Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW). In Toronto, Omar Barghouti will speak at Ryerson University on Monday, March 2nd 2009, and Ronnie Kasrils will speak at Ryerson University to close the week on Friday March 6th 2009.
IAW is aimed at raising awareness about Israel's apartheid policies toward Palestinians and to gather support for the international boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaign. Concurrent events will be held in over 40 cities throughout Canada and internationally, including on university campuses in South Africa and Palestine.
IAW will take place on Toronto campuses from March 2nd to March 8th 2009, despite an increase in attempts by pro-Israel administrations to ban IAW activities, place bureaucratic obstacles in front of organizers, and prevent honest debate on Israeli Apartheid.
